The 3 Main Type Of Filters Used In Air Purification Systems

Don't assume the air inside of your home is clean. Contaminates from the outside can get into the air inside of your home. Your home can also release its own contaminates as well.

An air purification system can help remove both external and internal contaminates from your home and improve the overall quality of the air. This is especially important if anyone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. There are three major types of filters used in air purification systems: pre-filters, carbon filters, and HEPA filters.

Pre-Filters

Air purification systems with pre-filters have two filters inside of them. The first or "pre" filter is designed to help large particles as soon as they enter your air purification system. Following the pre-filter is the regular filter, which then only has to trap the smaller particles that the pre-filter did not grab.

Air purification systems with a two-filter system help extend the life of both filters. You can get more usage out of both filters with a two-filter system as the job of removing contaminants from the air is divided between two filters. That means you will not have to clean or replace the filters as frequently as possible, and can help your overall air purification system work more effectively.

Carbon Filters

Carbon filters use activated carbon. Activated carbon is well-known for being able to remove odors from the air. Activated carbon can also remove chemicals in the air as well.

An air purification system with a carbon filter is great if you have a lot of contaminants in your home that are smelly or have a strong odor. For example, if someone smokes cigarettes in your home, or if you have pets, or if you are in a new home that is still releasing fumes from all the new materials, an air purification system with a carbon filter will remove particles from the air and will help neutralize strong odors.

HEPA Filters

HEPA filters are used in a wide variety of systems, from air purification systems to vacuums to furnaces. HEPA filters are High-Efficiency Particulate Air filters. HEPA filters are designed to remove the smallest particles from the air that often get through other filters.

For example, HEPA filters are able to remove things such as pollen and dust mites from the air. Particles that are so small you can't see them, but they can still impact your health.

The key is to find the filtration system that fits your needs. HEPA filters are great for allergy suffers. Carbon filters are great if you are battling odors in your home. Pre-filter or double-filter systems are great if you don't want to spend a lot of time taking care of the filter and you want a really effective filter system.
